Male or Female? Sexing Molly Fish Diagram?

Topic: I have a molly fish aquarium setup and was wondering what the differences in male or female tail types were? Is there a way to sex mollies and tell a difference between female or male? I want to start breeding my fish and selling them for profit. Is there a diagram I can use? Thanks.

Posted by Nikki B: These fish are some of my favorite because of how simple they are to keep and yet so tough. I’ve been keeping these fish for a decade now and feel I have an extensive knowledge on these fish. Lets answer your question now.

Sexing Molly Fish – Male or Female

The main difference in Molly Fish sexing is the fin differences. Look at the anal fin – if there is a fin, it’s a female, if it’s a narrow “tube” it’s a male. The male sex of the fish will have more of a pointed anal fin. The female fish will have a more rounded anal fin. There are diagrams floating around that can really help diagnose the sexing differences.

Mine was pregnant when I got her but I did not know because She was not showing but I’m about to end up with more baby mollies also I was reading somewhere that even if a male is not present within the tank when she does end up pregnant that she can stay pregnant for a few months because they have this thing that’s called a sperm Sac so they can re-fertlize their self for some time.
I’m not sure on this you would have to look more into it but I think I was told at one point that if I ended up with a male and a female and one of them have babies that you had to have like the water or some certain temperature and a few more things I’m still learning myself so I can’t say for sure that that’s correct information you would have to talk to someone that’s more experienced in them or have to do research to find out for sure
I don’t know the technical term but if the fin on the belly is straight down and comes to a point it’s a male. Lookds like a sword kinda.  It’s his baby maker LOL
good answer.  Here is an example of the kind of answer that teaches a man to fish.  He will never go hungry if he is taught how to get his food.  Just supplying the answer to the question is not going to help her figure out what her next  Mollie will be.  And we know there are going to be lots of those in the  future.
& my two guppies I bought as a “pair” haven’t reproduced either… kind of weird? Or no?
I’m no expert.  They were my son’s fish.  Only produced twice and that was it.  I had 3 females to one male. The white one looks a bit fat. I had problems with my black goldfish in the tank with other fish. I didn’t even know mine was pregnant until I went to do a water change and moved an ornamental tree I had in there.  You have to get them fast or they will get eaten.
okay!!

Yes, my silver is seriously fat. None of my other Molly’s have grown like it… but it’s for sure not pregnant.

Cant really tell on the dalmation needs to get a better pic of it but i would say female.
They look Male. But they are stressed and clamping fins. So it’s hard to say. When they relax and extend their fins its easier to tell.
Yep they both look like males to me… although their fins are clamped the dorsal fins on both are large and show the nodule and thickens spinal Ray used to raise their fin when displaying.  Also on the paler photo on the right his anal fin (gonopodium) is pointed.
Seriously??? I’m so mad right now. I have a 30 gal. tank and my “main” fish is a betta. I’ve done all I can to make sure he’s well taken care of, but an entire 30 gallon to himself?? I added 3 snails, he killed ’em. LARGE mystery snails. I added a common pleco and now he’s dead!!!! Anyone have a betta they can’t house with anything? I hate betta bowls, but he’s pushing my buttons!
You KNOW that’s not something most could pull off. I have 2 bettas and they definitely hate each other. I had one in a nursery box temporarily and they were constantly trying to fight. I’ve never had such an aggressive betta before, but he’s mine now, so I have to figure out how to keep him happy without letting him do any more damage.
i just wanna prove that male bettas can live and swim together in 1 tank.. so far no incident of them ever fighting.. they never attack any of the community fish that they’re with.
maybe you have same sex attracted fish. I have seen two males in a tank at a chain pet store before, it was awful, they were tearing each other apart. My dad picked one up with his hands and moved it to another tank then went nuts at the manager.
Or maybe they’re literally just betta fish and you’re defending somebody who isn’t educated on them enough to be taking care of them? Just throwing it out there it’s 2018 guys
I promise betta fish no matter what will behave like a betta fish, I promise these two are no different. They look like they’re battling to the death which is literally what is happening.
People don’t take things seriously then I’ll joke right with em. People aren’t willing to learn or admit defeat so why not make jokes. maybe when shit finally goes wrong they’ll realize they should’ve listened to me sarcastic or not.
I agree. I’ve had at least 20 in my lifetime and never had one THIS aggressive. I usually put snails, a pleco, and neon tetras with them, but this guy just wants to be alone I guess.
I’m a fish snob I’m afraid. I’ve owned some of the most exotic fish you can get, including a snakehead before they were outlawed. Danios, guppies, platies, etc…just not my cup of tea.
Try a different type of snail. You see mystery snails have large antennae and a betta fish thinks they are worms and will attack, some snail don’t have antennae as long as mystery snails.
WOW…I just Googled it and there’s many YouTube videos about “training” bettas to live together in a fraternity tank. I don’t think I’m going to attempt something so bold, but apparently He isn’t the first to do this.
Once you give a betta a tank to itself…he claims that whole tank as his. And anything  you add…will be killed. It’s sometimes best to introduce a betta to a tank that already has fish in it…so he doesnt claim the empty tank ..as his. And if he then still shows aggression..change the tank around..plants..decor…so territories  have to be..reestablished…continue doing this…sometimes  it does help.
